"To occupy the territories of other nations by force or treachery or to impose on them the political economic and other policy decisions against the will and interest of the local population, is called Imperialism." In different ages, the powerful empires espoused the different measures to exploit the weaker nations. In the near past, European nations like Britain, France, Italy, Russia, Holland and Portugal had occupied major parts of Asia and Africa. The white Europeans had enslaved the local inhabitants in America. All these are the manifestations of Imperialistic behaviors. Now that the human consciousness is too matured to bear the direct colonization, the Imperialism has transformed its maneuver. Now it comes through indirect routes. Countries are rarely occupied. Rulers are local and mostly elected. But adopting different tactics of intimidation, deception and blackmailing the empires enforce on the poor countries, the anti-people policies. The main objective of the neo capitalist Imperialism is to grab the resources of the world and to enslave the world through financial and economic power. It has a multifaceted strategy to attain this goal. On political front, it imposes the puppet rulers on the nations. It robs the natural resources. It spoils the local economies and paves the ways for Multinational Corporations and big Capitalists. It displaces the poor people from their homes and settlements. If any nation resists the imperialistic ambitions, it sends to them its troops and ransacks them using its military might. The Empire has many deceiving tools. It creates false dreams of growth and development in backward nations; captures them in the inescapable nets of loans and interest; creates artificial economic crises and offers conditional loans to come out of them. It’s cruel conditions include, the permission for MNCS to work, Permission of FDI, Reducing the subsidies, Reducing the spending on Social Sectors, Privatization of Public Enterprises etc. Through these imposed policies the wealth of the nation is steadily transferred to a few powerful global capitalists and the poor get poorer. The MNCs are the main agents of this burglary and Media plays the role of a dependable aide through its power of propaganda and advertisements. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has launched a nationwide campaign against Capitalist Imperialism. The main objective of this campaign is to create awareness about the Capitalist Imperialism and to bring the possible alternatives to the attention of the people and governments.

Capitalist Imperialism and India
In 1991 a Financial Crisis was created in our country. To get rid of it, our rulers sought the help of IMF and embraced its policies. From that time onwards, we too took that disastrous path of Economic Liberalisation whose natural outcome is slavery and poverty. Our policy makers started neglecting agriculture and rural economy. They started reducing public spending on social and welfare sectors. FDI started pouring in and its strong streams swept away the small local industries. Huge public sector companies were privatized creating massive unemployment. The trades of poor like grocery, vegetable etc. were opened for big corporate houses. Public funds were generously invested in beautification of big cities and building infrastructure mainly aimed at the elite business class. Craze of global brands and shopping mania was created promoting unparalleled consumerism. In short, the policy making took a new turn, escalating its focus on the rich and powerful and criminally neglecting the poor and backward. The Results of These Policies
These policies have been helpful in creating the wealth. But this newly created wealth got converged in a few rich hands. This is now, of no use to the poor majority of the country. We have been at number 2 in terms of GDP growth and at number 4 in the world and no. 1 in Asia in terms of the number of billionaires. But this has not helped us in making the lives of our poor citizens better. Our rank in Human development Index is consistently falling and now we are ranked at 134 in the world. It implies that despite of a high rate of increasing wealth, the condition of our poor majority is getting worsened. These policies are negatively impacting the agriculture and rural economy. Two third of India lives in villages. When our GDP was growing with an impressive 9 percent rate, the growth in agriculture sector was just 4 percent, which further deteriorated to just 1.8 percent last year. We spend only 20 percent of our infrastructure budget in rural areas. When we were impressing everyone in the world with our GDP growth, largest ever wave of the suicides in human history was passing through our country with around 17000 farmers killing themselves every year. The situation of public health in our country is among the worst in the world. Over five million children die in our country due to lack of proper treatment. This figure is half of the world figure. But still, in the ranking of the countries based on the ratio of health spending to GDP, we are fifth from the below in the list of 175 countries prepared by WHO. On Education, our expenditure in proportion to GDP is lesser than many poor African countries. Poor, tribals, and villagers are being displaced from their lands. Since independence over six crore people have been displaced. Over 80 percent of them have not been rehabilitated. In the name of Special Economic Zones people are being displaces, workers are being exploited and capitalist are getting freedom to establish semi-independent states within the country. People are being pushed to overspending and consumerism, creating burden of depts and psychological and lifestyle related diseases. Education is getting costlier. Quality Higher Education is getting out of rich for poor and even middle class populace. Due to corporate education and FDI in education, education is gradually being confined to producing human resources for the corporates. The relation of education with our socio-cultural values and our social needs is getting weakened. These policies are paving the ways for cultural aggression. Western cultural values are spreading in every sector from foods and drinks to lifestyles and morality. Imperialism has turned the woman into an advertisement tool and a sex-symbol. The exploitation of women and female bodies for commercial gains has paved the way for worst ever atrocities on women. Environmental Crisis is the contribution of these policies only. Today, neither our air is safe nor the water. The human existence is at stake and our planet is in unprecedented danger. Our surrender to the Capitalist Empire has forced us to withdraw from our traditional policy of non alignment and the consequent leadership role. We are forced to support the tyrannies and atrocities of big powers which is against our dignity and sovereignty and against the moral standing rooted in our great historical traditions. Islam an Alternative
In this backdrop, we are presenting Islam ic teaching as an alternative based on justice and moderation. Islam’s teachings help in creation of wealth and also in its just and equitable distribution. Islam’s slogan is Justice. It incorporates freedom, equity and growth. But these values are not unconditional. They are under Justice. Capitalism puts economic growth and capital at front and human being is given a back-seat. While in Islam Human and Humanity is the top priority. Growth and Capital are for the service to Humanity. So the Human concern should always take the top position and all concerns including the concerns of Growth and Development should be secondary. According to Islam, the state is responsible to fulfill the basic human needs of all its citizens. Right to Livelihood is among the basic human rights and the state should ensure that all citizens get sufficient nutrition, proper clothing and housing and timely medical help. The livelihood of our people should be our first priority. One important objective of economic policies should be to ensure that wealth is not circulated only among rich. It should flow from rich to poor. Only Inclusive Growth is not sufficient. What we need is the policies to lessen the gap between rich and poor. According to Islam, fulfillment of the basic needs will always have primacy over the provision of comfort and luxuries. So before glorifying the cities and providing infrastructural luxuries, it is necessary to fulfill the basic needs of food, shelter, clothing, education and medicine. According to Islam, Education and Health are the state responsibilities and state cannot withdraw from them. Islam prohibits interest since it helps in concentration of wealth and stops the flow of wealth from rich to poor. Islam prohibits illicit speculation since it engages the capital in unproductive activities and discourages the employment generating productive activities. Islam’s emphaisis os on simplicity and synchronization with nature. The Prophet SAW has instructed to spend water moderately even if one is doing his ablution beside a river. This lifestyle can help in solving the problems of consumerism and evnvironmental crisis. We request the people of India to ponder over these teachings of Islam. Islam is the name of the will and desire of our Creator and Sustainer. Islam is part of our national heritage. It is not something which belongs only to Muslims. Every human being has right over it. We wish, these noble teachings of Islam are considered while formulating the policies in our country; so that the fruits of progress reach to everyone. Poverty, starvation, miseries and ignorance are vanished. Our country becomes the focal point of equity and justice along with growth and development. And we grow into a perfect model of welfare and wellbeing for the whole world to follow.
